The Bay One-Acts Festival was one of the highlights of last year. Two programs of new plays produced by an incredible community of theater companies, directors, actors and writers who came together to make a really, really, really fun festival:
The festival has showcased some of the hottest playwrights working today: Trevor Allen, Tim Bauer, William Bivins, Megan Cohen, Stuart Eugene Bousel, Bennett Fisher, and Lauren Yee, to name just a few. (We’re talking about Kennedy Center comissionees, Hyperion Project winners, Heideman award finalists, MacDowell Colony fellows… local authors with national reputations, and some fresh new voices to boot.)
Our past and previous producing partners include: Asian American Theater Company, Boxcar Theatre, Climate Theatre, Dark Room Productions, PianoFight Productions, Playwrights Center SF, Sleepwalkers Theatre, Threshold, Playwrights Foundation, and Woman’s Will. Even we are kind of staggered by that list.
This year, the festival is on Kickstarter, which means you can donate to help make the festival happen, and you get some really cool rewards. If you’re good with math, you’ll realize that the $50 level almost pays for itself. If you’re not good with math, you can donate as little as $1, which is probably all you can afford because you are not good with math.
And if you are really good with math and investments, you probably have $1000 laying around, and thus you could get the reward of having a playwright write a play JUST FOR YOU and have it PRODUCED in the festival. You could be a modern-day Lorenzo de’Medici. Do it!
And look, my play from last year is in the video:
