Notice: Three Beckett Plays at Custom Made Theatre

It’s a rare treat to actually see Samuel Beckett’s plays, rather than simply reading them in that cool Grove Centenary edition that I’m sure you all have. Luckily, once a year, Custom Made Theatre does a six-performance workshop production of some of his work. This year, they’re doing:

  • Rough for Theatre I. The blind literally lead the lame in this funny, ironic walk towards the end.
  • Footfalls. A woman paces the stage speaking to an older woman who is perhaps her mother, perhaps a ghost, perhaps nothing at all.
  • Come and Go. Three women share a park bench reminiscing about what was and what might not be.

Best of all, it gives an excuse to post a picture of Beckett, who had one of the greatest faces of any playwright ever. How could you not be inspired to write with that photo over your desk?

Beckett in Winter III at The Custom Stage @ Off-Market, 965 Mission St, San Francisco, Fridays and Saturdays through Jan 24. Tickets at custommade.org.
