Leaving early this morning to head up to a ranch in Petaluma for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival retreat. All the playwrights, directors, dramaturgs and staff spend three days together. Each playwright reads their entire play out loud, by themselves. And then all these amazing brains chime in on what’s working and where they have questions.

I’ve never had the experience of hearing a playwright read an entire piece before, but one of my favorite parts of the Omaha experience was hearing Albee, Kopit, Wellman and the other “luminaries” reading their latest work, so I’m expecting good things. And getting to stand around a camp fire drinking beer with Migdalia Cruz? Come on!
