The darkly comic Christopher Durang is hanging onto hope
An article about one of my favorite playwrights, as his latest play is about to get its world premiere:
He is able to marshal absurdity for his own purposes so that no matter how preposterous what is happening is, it’s never divorced from some kind of real event, some kind of real happening among the characters, where someone is discovering or rediscovering something or being forced to learn something in their lives. It’s not just silliness for silliness’ sake — although sometimes it is.
